NEA Academy is an interactive learning environment providing practical online courses to meet professional development and continuing education needs.



NEA Academy offers online continuing education and Master’s degrees that fit your budget, schedule, and needs. Based on your individual preferences, NEA Academy will provide content recommendations, course alerts, and additional material of specific interest to you.

 

The content of NEA Academy is peer approved. Material meets quality standards determined by NEA members. Video clips feature actual classroom teachers who demonstrate different ways to use the strategies you learn.

NEA Academy provides more than 40 degree programs with hundreds of courses, many in areas of high need such as special education, math, science, reading, technology, instructional design, and ELL.



NEA Academy tries to negotiate reduced rates for members. Master’s degrees, some from top universities, are discounted 5-20%. Some NEA-produced courses are totally free to members.

Featured: 5-2-2013 Trace Effects [English]

Trace Effects is a collaborative English language video game for learning American English and culture through puzzles, games, and adventures in an interactive world.



This language-learning video game will complement classroom English language instruction through interactive 3D multimedia learning adventures. Trace Effects is intended for players aged 12-16 who are not native English speakers.


The main character, Trace, is a university student from the year 2045 who has accidentally traveled back in time to the present. In order to get back, Trace must complete a challenging mission to change the future for the better by helping six different young people accomplish great things and have a positive impact on the future.

Learners interact and solve puzzles in a virtual world populated with diverse English-speaking characters. Players take a dynamic journey through the US, traveling to a variety of locations.

Trace Effects exposes young people to American society and explores themes related to entrepreneurship, community activism, empowering women, science and innovation, environmental conservation, and conflict resolution.

Featured: 5-1-2013 Word Mover [Language Arts]

ReadWriteThink's Word Mover is a free iPad app that can be used to supplement and reinforce classroom instruction and promote increased student engagement through the use of modern technology.

Word Mover allows kids to create "found poetry" by choosing from word banks and existing famous works. Users can also add new words to create a piece of poetry by moving and manipulating the text.
