In The Underground Railroad: Escape from Slavery, students will travel back to 1860 and follow a young slave as he flees a Kentucky plantation heading for Canada by way of the Underground Railroad.

Along the way, students can read or listen as the runaway slave describes his frightening trek to freedom. They'll learn what life was like as a runaway slave, meet the hazards of the Underground Railroad, meet courageous abolitionists who took great risks to help runaways, and compare Northern and Southern life.
There are four stops in the journey …
- On the Plantation: Life as Slave
- Escape! The Underground Railroad
- Reaching Safety: Heroes for the Cause
- Almost Free: Life in the North
At each stop, a different curriculum theme is explored through slideshows, activities, and primary sources: Slavery in America, The Underground Railroad, Abolitionists and Harriet Tubman, and Causes of the Civil War.

Scholastic has such cool content on their site to help students understand events in history, literacy concepts, etc. This is one that I hadn't seen before, I love that students are transported into the time period and get to hear the journey. This is a great way to involve students in their learning.
