Extra: 2-2-14 Microsoft Mathematics

Last week, I posted about the Grapher app bundled with Mac OS X. Though, not automatically included with any Windows OS, Microsoft offers a similar app as a free download.

Microsoft Mathematics provides a graphing calculator that plots graphs in 2-D and 3-D, step-by-step equation solving, and useful tools to help students with math and science.

Microsoft Mathematics

Theset of mathematical tools provided by Microsoft Mathematics can help students get school work done quickly and easily. Students can learn to solve equations step-by-step while gaining a better understanding of fundamental concepts in pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, and calculus.

A full-featured graphing calculator, designed to work like a handheld calculator, is included in Microsoft Mathematics. There are additional tools help evaluate triangles, convert from one system of units to another, and solve systems of equations.

Featured: 6-6-2013 FormulaSheet

Formula Sheet

Store all your formulas in one place with FormulaSheet. All your formulas will be accessible from anywhere you can connect to the Internet.

Formula Sheet 1

Using FormulaSheet, formulas can be organized into lists, or combined with text and diagrams to create sheets.

With FormulaSheet, you can:

  • Search Wikipedia and/or FormulaSheet for the formulas you need. Instantly get an image or copy the formula to LaTeX or MS Word.
  • Upload your own formula as a LaTeX file. FormulaSheet will find and extract all of your formulas.
  • Create formulas from scratch using an intuitive equation editor.
  • Share formula lists and sheets with other users.
  • Render your formula, list, or sheet as a pdf document, as a tex file, or as a png image.

Formula Sheet 2

The new Calculator feature lets you solve selected formulas right on FormulaSheet. Enter the variables that you know, and the calculator will solve for the one that you are trying to find. Any constants used by the formula are provided.

 Watch the Formulasheet intro video

FormulaSheet is a free web app, but voluntary donations are welcomed.

Things I Like: MyScript© Calculator

MyScript© Calculator is a free app that performs mathematical calculations using your own handwriting.

I discovered this app last night and I think it’s one of the coolest thing I’ve ever seen on my iPhone. Cool factor aside, I think it can be quite functional and useful, too.

MyScript© Calculator is easy, simple, and intuitive. Just write the mathematical expression on the screen then MyScript technology performs its magic, converting symbols and numbers to digital text and delivering the result in real-time.

BENEFITS AND FEATURES:

  • Use your handwriting to write any arithmetic formula.
  • Write and calculate mathematical expressions in an intuitive and natural way with no keyboard
  • Supported mathematical symbols:
    • +, -, x, ÷, +/-, 1/x, ()
    • %, √, x!, |x|
    • ℯx, xy , x2
    • cos, sin, tan
    • acos, asin, atan
    • ln , log
    • π, ℯ,
  • Scratch-out gestures to easily delete symbols and numbers

MyScript© Calculator  works on your smartphone and on your tablet, Android OS from 2.1 to 4.1 and above and iOS 6.

Great Free Online Calculator

eCalc is one of the best online calculator solutions I have seen yet. eCalc comes in two attractive, easy to use versions, basic and scientific. The basic version, as it's name suggests, performs the usual common functions that most students would use regularly. The scientific version performs the functions you'd expect from any scientific calculator including equation solving, complex numbers, RPN support, unit conversion, and more. And it does all this totally for FREE!

For more information, watch the eCalc video demo.
