All Quiz-Tree.com activities have a Flash-based animated interface, sounds, and other features to make learning more enjoyable. All the activities run in a browser window. The Barnes & Noble eReader desktop apps for PCs and Macs are excellent free eBook reading software.

With both you can shop for, purchase, and read eBooks in the .pdb format purchased from Barnes & Noble. You can also read any eBooks in the ePub format wherever you acquired them.

Add bookmarks, notes, and highlights to eTexts. Search the full text of books. LendMe™ Technology lets you share eBooks with others. Each version includes an onboard user's guide.



Though both the PC and Mac versions offer a pretty similar basic reading experience, the user interface and extended functionality of each differs dramatically from the other.

In the PC version ...

• Support for touch screen computers and tablets running Windows 7
• Read newspapers and magazines
• Support for documents in PDF format
• Add eBooks from your hard drive to your library for easy access

 

In the Mac version ...

• Open eBooks from anywhere on your hard drive

Voisse is a website where you can conveniently and easily record, store, and share audio online.

Voisse lets you record whenever and however you want. Record online in your browser, use your phone by calling a dedicated number, or upload already existing recordings.

Store your recordings in your own safe, secure, and free online library called My Voisses. Create audio slideshows and podcasts from your recordings. Voisse slideshows can be viewed on-line or downloaded to an iPod device. Share your slideshows by email or social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, even sell them in the VoisseMarketplace. By default, everything that is recorded on Voisse is private.

Voisse is free to record, keep, and share online. The free Personal plan provides unlimited recordings, storage, and sharing. With purchased credits (1 credit = £1 = $1.59) you can create podcasts or slideshows and buy content in the Marketplace. There are also Personal Plus and Professional paid plans.

Voisse is a UK based company founded in early 2009.

Catch of the Day - MathTV - 8/11/2010

 

MathTV offers free tutorial videos covering topics in basic math, algebra, geometry, trig, and calculus.

Solutions to each example exercise are demonstrated in two or more short videos by different instructors. In each video, the instructor explains and demonstrates the procedure used to solve the problem. Many  of the exercises include solutions demonstrated by Spanish-speaking teachers.

MathTV is also piloting a series of online eTextbooks. Presently there are texts for Introductory Mathematics, Introductory Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra.

In the MathTV Bookstore, textbooks used in one-semester college courses in mathematics are available for purchase. Most of the examples in each of these books are presented in MathTV videos.

Catch of the Day - My Wonderful World - 8/10/2010

My Wonderful World is an initiative spearheaded by National Geographic to expand geographic learning in schools, homes, and communities.

The website MyWonderfulWorld.org is the center of the campaign, offering resources for teachers, parents, and kids. Other facets of the My Wonderful World effort include public service advertising, coalition projects, policy advocacy, events, and state coordinators.

The official My Wonderful World goals are …

• Give parents and teachers ideas and tools to help kids learn about the world
• Increase the number of geography courses offered in schools
• Increase the number of students taking geography courses and participating in geographic activities
• Increase the number of community organizations that engage kids in learning about the world
• Help policy leaders learn about the geographic literacy crisis and encourage them to take action

My Wonderful World is supported by a coalition of national business and non-profit organizations. So far, more than 80,000 individual supporters have signed up to, too, and receive a monthly e-newsletter.
