"Today, everything on Inkling can fit in the palm of your hand with Inkling for iPhone. This is the first time anyone has shrunk down something as complicated as a textbook or cookbook to an iPhone screen — and still made it as enjoyable to read and experience as on an iPad or computer screen. Now, it’s even easier to watch videos, spin 3D models, take quizzes, and search the book while walking to class, taking the bus, or waiting in line."

LearnZillion Recruiting Talented Math and ELA Teachers
I introduced LearnZillionhere late last month. LearnZillion provides easy access to quality Common Core-aligned video math lessons, assessment items, and progress reporting. Users can get practical teaching resources, create playlists for their classes, track homework, and deliver lessons to their students in a timely manner.

I just learned of the following terrific opportunity for talented EDge21 readers from LearnZillion's administrative assistant Ann Yuan.
LearnZillion pays teachers to create these lessons, and they are currently recruiting teachers for a second content creation cycle, which will take place this summer. It is their hope to create a library of video lessons that will cover the Common Core standards in math and ELA.
You can apply to become part of LearnZillion's Dream Team of Math and Literacy Teachers this summer. LearnZillion is selecting 100-200 teachers to join the Dream Team. They're looking for teachers who want to have a broader impact and who have the talent and enthusiasm to craft dynamite video lessons. Each teacher selected will receive:
- The technology and software necessary to create video lessons
- Support and feedback from math and literacy experts and other talented Dream Team members
- $2000 (US) compensation
- Recognition on LearnZillion's website
Dream Team members commit to creating 20 video lessons between June and mid-August (with a possible convening event on June 19-21). All video lessons will be featured on the LearnZillion website and linked to professional development platforms in multiple states. All video lessons will be freely available to all teachers and students across the country.
Admissions are rolling. They are currently recruiting for a second admissions cycle, which ends April 29th, and the final cycle ends May 27th.
To apply, click here and complete the application form. You can email LearnZillion's administrative assistant Ann Yuan (annyuan@learnzillion.com) if you have questions about the application.
This looks like a great way to spend your summer, expand your reach, and earn a little cash!

CK-12, first mentioned here in July 2010, is working to establish the development and distribution of quality educational content that can be used as core texts as well as to provide a flexible context for learning.

In June, CK-12 Foundation is introducing the next generation FlexBooks system. In addition to the current FlexBooks functionality, the new system introduces learning in the form of concepts, small units of content that can be used to learn or review a particular topic.
Friends of CK-12 are invited to explore their new system and help them improve by providing feedback. The system is a work in progress and regular updates will be made based on this feedback.
Click here to get started with the beta quick start guide and create an account. Existing CK-12 accounts are not a part of the new system yet, so an account specific to this new system will need to be created.
In other news, CK-12 Foundation and Encyclopedia of Life are joining forces to produce Understanding Biodiversity - a FlexBook for secondary level students, created by secondary level students. Understanding Biodiversity will consist of species pages describing organisms studied in the life sciences.

OnLive Desktop Plus Offers More Service
OnLive Desktopfrom Microsoft, the subject of a recent post, gives you free, simple access to MS Office on your iPad from anywhere you have an Internet connection.

Now OnLive has released a new service plan, Plus. This Plus plan costs $4.99 (US) per month. The Plus version adds Internet Explorer 9 to the software suite and access to third-party storage sites such as Dropbox and Gmail. You also get priority access.
According to a Macworld story, browsing the Web through Onlive Desktop and Internet Explorer is faster than using Safari on the iPad because your iPad isn’t doing all the processing required to render the page. MyTownTutors Adds "Tutor Location" Feature
MyTownTutors connects parents and students with qualified nearby teachers. It was featured in a post here last winter.

During the past few months, My Town Tutors has been working to add a “tutor location” feature to provide more flexibility in selecting an additional tutor location.
Originally, when a teacher registered, the only option was to select their “teaching school” as the tutoring location. Now, after selecting the “teaching school”, the teacher has the option of selecting a “tutoring location”. The “tutor location” choice allows the teacher to select an additional location other than the work school.
